Mothering Sunday 2014

My sister and I haven't always been the best offspring. Last year, we weren't home for Mother's Day, so this year we wanted to make it up to our lovely mum. We ummed and aahed over things to do, weighing up the pros and cons of teas, dinners and various activities, and finally decided that with time limitations (my sister taking the train down from Edinburgh the same day), the best thing to do would be to keep it simple and put on a nice foodie spread at home.

In the morning I made my mum breakfast in bed (her favourite Mariage aux Frères Gyokuo green tea and porridge with toasted walnuts, chopped banana and maple syrup). Then when Bri arrived back at Casa Lim in the afternoon, we prepared afternoon tea.

Bri had baked two cakes - coffee and walnut, and banana and brazil nut, while I'd bought some salads from Gail's that morning - chorizo and black bean, and quinoa and goat's cheese - as well as some summer fruits, which we arranged on the table.

Then we picked lots of flowers from the garden and laid everything out for our number one lady, and also gifted her with her favourite popcorn from Joseph & Joseph, Charbonnel & Walker champagne truffles, a Pierre Marcolini selection box, and some SlinkyFeline leggings. Cos she's going to need something comfy to slip into after all this eating!

We love you Mum - happy mother's day!
